Man Who Tried to Purchase ATV Online Scammed Out of $2200

HARMONY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police said a local man was scammed out of over $2,000 when he attempted to purchase an ATV via an online marketplace last week.

Around 5:00 p..m. on January 30, Marienville-based State Police investigated a theft by deception incident at a residence along Walnut Street in Harmony Township, Forest County.

According to police, a 68-year-old male victim attempted to purchase an ATV online through eBay and was scammed out of $2,200.00.

Police say the scammer told the victim to purchase $2,200.00 in eBay gift cards and provide the codes on the back of the cards in order to purchase the ATV. The victim later realized it was a scam after contacting eBay.
