Oil City Man, Woman Charged with Burglary After Suspect Drops Stolen Credit Card

HandcuffsOIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – Two Oil City individuals are facing felony charges stemming from a burglary that occurred this week on Reed Street in Oil City.

The Oil City Police Department arrested 21-year-old Kaila Sloan and 24-year-old Justin T. Evans, both of Oil City, after the investigation into a burglary that occurred on Reed Street in Oil City sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on December 3, 2017.

Through the investigation and interviews, it was found that Evans entered the residence on Reed Street and removed a purse containing a wallet and other personal items, as well as keys to residences and vehicle keys, according to the complaint.

On December 4, a concerned citizen located a credit card belonging to the victim on Elm Street behind McDonald’s. Video surveillance showed the person who had dropped the credit card to be Kaila Sloan. Sloan is known to the Oil City Police Department from prior law enforcement matters, the complaint states.

On December 5, 2017, Sloan was located at a residence on East First Street in Oil City and was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant from other unrelated law enforcement related matters. She subsequently provided officers with an interview advising she knew the said items to be stolen or believed the said items she received from Evans were stolen and did describe the purse taken from Reed Street and told officers the said item had been in the possession of Evans, according to police.

Evans also traveled to the Oil City Police Department on his own free will to turn himself in on the outstanding warrant for the unrelated law enforcement matters. He was taken into custody without incident, police say.

Both Evans and Sloan were arraigned before Judge Andrew Fish on December 5.

Unable to post bail – $75,000.00 for Evans and $35,000.00 for Sloan – they were lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. at the Venango County Courthouse.

Evans faces the following charges:

– Conspiracy – Burglary – Overnight Accommodations; Person Present, Felony 1
– Burglary – Overnight Accommodations; Person Present, Felony 1
– Conspiracy – Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 2
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 2
– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 2
– Loitering And Prowling At Night Time, Misdemeanor 3

The following charges have been filed against Sloan:

– Conspiracy – Burglary – Overnight Accommodations; Person Present, Felony 1
– Conspiracy – Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 2
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 2

November 25, 2017 Incident in Cranberry Township

Evans is facing additional charges from the November 25, 2017 incident, as follows:

– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 2
– Conspiracy – Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 2
– Unauthorized Use Motor/Other Vehicles, Misdemeanor 2
– Driving While Operating Privileges Suspended Or Revoked, Summary

Sloan is facing the following charges:

– Conspiracy – Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 2
– Unauthorized Use Motor/Other Vehicles, Misdemeanor 2
– Driving While Operator Privileges Suspended Or Revoked, Summary

According to court documents, the cases are awaiting preliminary hearings.
