MARBLE, Pa. (EYT) — Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Marble, Pa., has announced the retirement of Anna M. Smerkar following a successful 47-year career.

When Ann stepped off the bus on her last day of high school in 1971, she had no idea that she was beginning a career that would span so many years and one in which she would be so successful.

Ann began her employment typing insurance policies.

She now holds the titles of Secretary of Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Marble, Pa., Vice President of Underwriting, and Office Manager.

As Vice President of Underwriting, Ann has developed a strong department and worked to improve the results to where the company experience has been above average for many years. She has held a resident Pennsylvania Insurance Property and Casualty License since 1983.

As office manager, she strived to make working at Farmers Mutual a friendly family operation rather than the typical office atmosphere.

She was inducted into the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) Merit Society in 2014 which was the same year that she fulfilled the requirements to become certified as a Professional Farm Mutual Manager.

Farmers Mutual is a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (PAMIC) where Ann has been a member of the Underwriting and Loss Prevention Committee and the Human Resources Committee. She is well-respected and will be missed in the mutual industry.

Ann has loved her job and all the amazing people she has met during her career.

She resides in Marble with her husband, Sam. They are looking forward to spending more time with their children and grandchildren.
