Margaret-Wells-1499098152Margaret Cox Beck Wells, 100, of Oil City, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Oil City Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

A daughter of the late Ephriam Frederick and Frances DeWoody Cox, she was born, March 12, 1917 in Van.

She was a graduate of Cranberry High School and Welsh Business College in Oil City.

Margaret owned a women’s clothing and accessories store in Shippenville during the 1940’s and 1950’s before beginning a career as an executive secretary for the US Government. During her time working for the government, she served for several different agencies, and moved to Washington D.C. in furtherance of her career, eventually retiring from the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.

Mrs. Wells was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed playing duplicate bridge, had a love for music, and was an active member of the Rockville United Methodist Church in Rockville, MD.

In October of 1939, she was married to John Beck in the Van United Methodist Church and he preceded her in death in 1963. After moving to Washington D.C., she met Fred Wells, and they were married in October of 1968. Mr. Wells preceded her in death in 2010.

Margaret is survived by a daughter, Margaret Clark of Oil City, a son, John Beck and his wife Mary Lou of Malvern, PA, and a step-son, Robert Wells and his wife Wanda of Gaithersburg, MD.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, John Clark and his wife Betsy of Oil City, Mark Clark of Odenton, MD, and Jason Beck of Wayne, PA; three step-grandchildren, Matthew Wells and his wife Jennifer of Minneapolis, MN, Lauren Wells of Baltimore, MD, and Steve Wells of Gaithersburg, MD; four great grandchildren, Elizabeth Hicks and her husband David of Roxboro, NC, Sara Exley and her husband Matt of Erie, Tyler Beck of Wayne, PA, and James Buckner of Baltimore, MD; and six great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Margaret was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Cox, the Rev. George Cox, and the Rev. James Cox, and a sister, Ruth Nunamaker.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Saturday from 11 to 12 noon.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 12 noon.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
