Margaret L. (Cavanaugh) Kirkpatrick, 84, passed away at Oakwood Heights in Oil City on Friday, February 24, 2017, in the company of her family.

She was born on July 3, 1932 at home in Rouseville, PA. She was the oldest of 3 children born to Sheridan Joseph Cavanaugh and Isabelle Thomas Cavanaugh.

She was married on February 27, 1950 to Hilton Argile Kirkpatrick in Westminster, Maryland. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1987. They had 3 sons.

Margaret was well known in the area having worked for a number of years at Sylvania in Titusville, Beverly Healthcare in Oil City and as a greeter at WalMart in Seneca. She was a kind and caring person who was always accepting of others and willing to help when and where she could.

She was baptized Catholic and received her first Holy Communion at St. Josephs in Oil City and attended Catholic schools until High School. She later married and became a member and supporter of Rouseville United Methodist Church. She was a woman of strong faith and clung to her faith and Catholic upbringing.

She is survived by her two sons Sheridan C. (Herk) Kirkpatrick and his wife Sue Ann and Kenneth J. Kirkpatrick all of Oil City. Also surviving is her granddaughter Jenny (Kirkpatrick) Eckert and Timothy Eckert of Mount Lebanon, PA. and grandson Matthew C. Kirkpatrick of Kane, PA. She was blessed to meet and spend Christmas with her first great granddaughter Elizabeth Irene Eckert born December 12, 2016. She is also survived by 4 very special nieces, a nephew and their families.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Joseph L. Kirkpatrick on April 21, 1967, her sister Barbara (Cavanaugh) Malik of Scottdale, PA. and her brother Sheridan Joseph Cavanaugh, Jr. of Oil City.

In keeping with Margaret’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial gardens next to her husband and son Joseph.

Arrangements are being handled by Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City.

A memorial gathering will be discussed and arranged at a later time when family from outside the area can attend.
