Maria Gigliotti

Maria Gigliotti, age 77, of Tionesta, PA, entered into heaven on Tuesday August 19, 2014, at her home in Tionesta surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 23, 1936 in Sellia Marina (PRO) Catanzaro, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Nicola Condello and Assunta Catanese.

As a young adult residing in Milano, Maria was first employed as a seamstress. Thereafter, she began her career in the retail food industry by opening her first restaurant adjacent to “La Scala”, the famous opera house in Milano. In 1971, Maria and her family immigrated to the United States and settled in Pennsylvania. During that time, she owned and operated several restaurants and pizzarias including Leonardos in Franklin and City Pizza in Tionesta. Her unique dough recipe for pizza and subs served at City Pizza was sought after by many local customers as well as from across the map.

Maria’s unconditional love and dedication to her children, and the legacy she left behind will not be forgotten. She was a member of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church of Tionesta, the Tionesta Chamber of Commerce, and the Forest County Historical Society. She completed all the necessary requirements and became a U.S. citizen in 1991. Some of her interests included traveling, knitting, watching “The Price Is Right”, going to the casino, and playing her favorite list of lottery numbers.

Surviving are her former husband, Giuseppe Gigliotti of Milton, FL. Two sons, Leo and his wife Tracy, of Tionesta, PA.; Franky and his wife Raquel of Cary, NC. Four daughters, Fran Corticchia and her husband Giuseppe of Delray Beach, FL.; Patty Johnston (Caregiver) and her husband Troy “Bucci” Johnston Jr. also of Tionesta, PA.; Lisa Monteiro and her husband Manuel of Estero, FL.; Loreana Greer and her husband Archie of Sheffield, PA. Twenty-two grandchildren, Nicole, Maurizio, Alyssa, Adriano, Gabriela, Kevin, Danielle, Derek, Kathryn, Allen, Noel, Nicola, Luca, Angelo, Marc, Manuel Jr., Jessica, Brittany, Breanna, Patrick, Brian, Milania. Three great-grandchildren, Francesco, Antonietta, Carson. Three brothers, Domenico Condello and his wife Anna; Giuseppe Condello and his wife MariaLuisa, all of Italy; Franco Condello of Elizabethville, PA. A sister, Carmela DeLeonardis, also of Italy. Numerous other family members both in the US and Italy. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her infant daughter.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home in Tionesta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Tionesta, at 11 AM with Fr. Joseph Kalinowski celebrating the Mass. Final resting place will be at Riverside Cemetery in Tionesta.
