IMG_9006MARIENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – The Marienville Volunteer Fire Company’s semi annual ATV ride surpassed 1,000 riders this past weekend.

Brian Popoleo, who chairs the Tour-de-Forest and tallies the machines, said there were 1,107 registered ATV’s.

On average, the event has 700-800 ATV’s registered.

The Tour-de-Forest, which started in 1995, is an ATV ride through the Allegheny National Forest on specially designated roads and trails.

It is a family event where riders of all ages can enjoy a weekend of fun, stopping to enjoy the  beauty of Forest County streams and mountain vistas to take a family photo or just take in the beauty.

Included in the weekend fun are a pancake breakfast, a spaghetti dinner, lunch on the trail, a photo contest, and a poker run.

The Marienville Volunteer Fire Company along with the Lions Club, Relay for Life teams, school classes, local churches, the Ham radio club, and Farmington Fire Company helped contribute to the long success of the Tour-de-Forest.

Each year the fire company picks a national organization and donates a portion of the registration fee to that cause. This year’s theme was “Tour for a Cure” for breast cancer research.

Marienville Volunteer Fire Company, which formed in 1892, is celebrating 125 years of serving the community this year.

“We would like to acknowledge the participants for the 20-plus years of success of the event,” Kevin Carter said.

“Thank you to those organizations that help provide a service and also those riders that come back year after year to support our event.”

The fall Tour-de-Forest is scheduled for September 30 and October 1.
