Mary Carolyn McCleary Deitz

Mary Carolyn McCleary Deitz, 77, of Clarion, passed away Sunday evening, September 29, 2013.

Born on May 28, 1936 in Clarion, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Willard (McLaine) McCleary. She graduated from Clarion High School.

On June 22, 1973, Carolyn was married to Edward Deitz, who survives.  They had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this summer.

Carolyn worked for Maul’s Dairy Store on Main Street in Clarion in her younger years.  Later, she worked for Owens-Illinois for 18 years before raising her family full time.

She was a life member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Miola where she rarely missed a Sunday service.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; three brothers, Thomas McCleary who was killed in WWII, Fred McCleary, Charles “Jiggs” McCleary; and one sister, Kathryn Beck.

Along with her husband, Carolyn is survived by three sons, Andrew Rader of Tionesta; Mark Deitz and his wife Patt of Clarion; Dana Deitz of Denver, Colorado; one daughter, Sheila Watson and her husband James of Leeper; four grandchildren Pauline Shaffer, Philip Maya, Joe Maya, Karen (Carlos) Santiago; and four great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters Betty Milanovich of Rimersburg and Doris Mahle of Connecticut along with numerous nephews and nieces.

Family and friends will be received from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm Tuesday at Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion, and from 10 – 11 am on Wednesday at Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Miola.  Funeral services will be held on 11 am Wednesday, October 2, at Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Miola with Pastor Marsha Mahle presiding.  Interment will take place in Miola Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Miola Shiloh Presbyterian Church, c/o 2876 Miola Road, Clarion, PA 16214 or Miola Cemetery Association, c/o 261 Maxwell Road, Clarion, PA 16214.
