OI114481898_CathyManion001Mary Catherine “Cathy” Manion, 68, of 58 Horne Lane, Oil City, PA. died March 4, 2014 at UPMC-Northwest in Seneca after an extended illness.

Born July 23, 1945 in Oil City, PA. , she was the daughter of the late Daniel F. Manion Jr. & Ruth Marie Dempsey Manion.

Cathy attended St. Stephen’s Grade School, St. Joseph’s High School and was a member of the first graduating class at Venango Christian High School in 1963.

Cathy received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from The Franciscan University of Steubenville in 1967 and her Masters in early childhood from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971.

She taught first grade in the North Allegheny School District for 6 ½ years and had taught for the Oil City School District for 27 years, retiring in 2002.

While at the Oil City School District, Cathy taught Schools at Lincoln, Siverly and Hasson Heights from where she retired from in 2002.

Cathy was a lifetime member of St. Stephen’s Church, where she served in the Servants of St. Stephen Ministry and was a lector, counter and a Eucharistic Minister.

She volunteered her time for the Oil City Arts Council, the Oil City Chamber of Commerce, the American Red Cross, Transit Fine Arts Gallery and for the St. Elizabeth Center.

She was a member of the Oil City Arts Council, and the Venango Musuem of Art, Science & Industry, the Red Hat Society and the Venango Chorus.

Cathy was also a member of Theta Phi Alpha Womens Sorority, the Alpha Zeta Chapter and National Catholics.

An animal lover, she enjoyed memberships in the ASPCA, World Wildlife Fund, the Humane Society of U.S. and the North Shore Animal League. Cathy loved her Boston Terriers.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Judith M.Kish of Rye, NH., A brother Robert J. Manion of Pittsburgh, an infant brother Daniel F. Manion III, and a nephew Timothy M. Kish.

She is survived by nephews, David M. Kish & his wife Liz of NH., Andrew R. Manion of Pittsburgh, Sean R. Manion & his wife Lindsey of OH, A niece, Jill S. Sullivan & her husband Ryan and their daughters Brynn and Sloane of TX, A sister-in-law, Sandy Manion of Pittsburgh, Close Cousins, Nancy Gomola of Oil City and her family, Bob & Mary Lee Hughey of Kent, OH., Special friends, Mareeta Durney & family, Dottie Valimont, Toni & Ted Kresinski, Sue George and Pat Woods.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 P.M.Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in St. Stephen’s Church with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, Pastor, Presiding.

Interment will be in Rynd Farm Cemetery.
