Mary Elizabeth BennettMary Elizabeth “Betty” Bennett, 86, of 1434 West First St, Oil City, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca after a period of declining health.

Born June 26, 1930 in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Charles J. and Ida M. Nelson Speer.

Betty was a graduate of Oil City High School.

In her earlier years, Betty enjoyed playing the piano, drawing and writing stories. She was an excellent seamstress and made many clothes and Halloween costumes for her children when they were young.

She was well known for her tacos which she made for her family and friends at various establishments in town.

Betty was happiest doing carpentry projects at her home with her son, Dale. She was very creative and full of life and laughter. She loved the company of her children and grandchildren, and her cat, Honey.

Betty is survived by seven children and spouses, Carolyn Terrill, Christine Bennett, Corinne (Lou) Ruby, Cathy (Brian) Gotses, David (Sharon) Bennett, Dean Bennett and Dale (Debbie) Bennett; 19 grandchildren, Richard, Robert and Luke Terrill, Jennifer Piercy, Ryan Weaver, Troy Barthen, Sara Haupt, Austin and Shane Ruby, Jesse Ragon, Aaron and Jordan Gotses, Marci Wilson, Kelly Reid, Parker and Cody Bennett, Sam and Sophie Bennett and Chaval Russell, whom she raised as her own daughter. Betty also had numerous great and great great grandchildren. She was lovingly called “Betty Boop” by all of them.

She also leaves behind a close, lifetime friend, Jane McCauley.

Betty was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Robert L. Bennett, the father of her 8 children; two brothers, Walter and Charles Speer; a son-in-law, James E. Terrill; and an infant daughter, Candace Rose. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of nine siblings.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 5 pm on Tuesday at the Morrison Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 5 pm with the Rev. Randy Kightlinger, the VNA Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
