Mary GlassMary W. Glass, 81, went Home to be with her Lord, surrounded by her loving family and friends at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017, following an extended illness.

She was born in Oil City on September 17, 1935, a daughter of the late Harry L. Oakes, Sr. and Mary Bell (Kimes) Oakes.

She attended Oil City schools. Mrs. Glass attended the Fertigs Church of God of Prophecy (Lighthouse of Praise) where she helped with monthly dinners and Vacation Bible School.

Mary’s hobbies included doing puzzles, collecting porcelain dolls, watching baseball games on television, yard sales, seeing Christmas lights, and attending outings with her family and friends. She cherished time spent with her family, grandchildren, and her shih tzu dog, Cody.

Mrs. Glass was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker to her family.

She was married in Oil City on November 17, 1956 to Paul E. Glass, Sr., and he survives. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage together.

Also surviving are four children: Paul E. Glass, Jr. and his wife Sandy, of Knox, Ken Glass, Gwen Glass, and Bellery Glass, all of Venus; four grandchildren: Aaron Glass of Knox, Luke Glass, Tyler Rowe, and Courtney Rowe, all of Titusville; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Moore and Anna Rowe. Mary is also survived by two sisters: Geraldine Oakes of Oil City and Arlene Exley of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Harry and Mary Bell Oakes, she was preceded in death by two children: Geraldine Glass and Duane Glass; three brothers, Charles Oakes, Harry L. Oakes, Jr., and Clair Oakes; and two sisters, Ida Sliter and Dorothy Carner.

Friends will be received Thursday (Feb. 23rd) from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. On Friday, Feb. 24th, a visitation will be held at the Fertigs Church of God of Prophecy (Lighthouse of Praise), 112 Winwood Lane in Venus, from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. The Rev. Jimmie Turner, church pastor, will officiate.

Private interment will immediately follow in the Venus Cemetery.
