One year later, he and his “girl,” Claradean Ste¬phens, were married by Rev. Kuhlman in the Good Hope Lutheran Church, at that time lo¬cated on West First Street. They honeymooned in Niagara Falls, Canada.

They have three daughters, Maurean Jo Sallade and her husband Paul of Oil City, Sharon Sue Jones and her hus¬band Raymond of Birdsboro, Pa., and Deborah Lee Treneff and husband Jeffrey of Grove City, Ohio. They also have two grandchildren and two great grandsons, Amy Bonner and husband Colin and their son Charles of Charlottesville VA, and Michael Sallade and wife Sarah and their son Fenton of Kingston NH.

In 1949, Maurie joined the Pennsylva¬nia National Guard. In the summer of 1950 at Indiantown Gap, the unit was alerted for federal service. He was pro¬moted to second lieu¬tenant and transferred to Co. E, Ridgway, Johnsonburg and St. Marys. He was later assigned to the base command at Camp Atterbury, Ind.
