Maxine KingMaxine Louise King, 77, a resident of Franklin, died peacefully at 2:16 PM Friday, June 9, 2017 in the Transitional Care Department of UPMC-Northwest in Seneca; following a decline in health.

She was born May 13, 1940 in Oil City, a beloved daughter of the late: Lewis Beatty King and Velma Nolene Nelson King.

Maxine graduated from Rocky Grove High School with the Class of 1958, as Class Valedictorian. She attended and graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1962 with a B.A. degree in Liberal Arts with Mathematics major. She later received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Special Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

Maxine married and had one daughter, Robin Louise Becki.

She had worked for a number of years as a computer programmer with I.B.M. at Endicott, NY and Pittsburgh, and at The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Maxine had later worked for 28 years as a Special Education Teacher for the Intermediate Unit (IU5) in Meadville. Following her retirement, she actively volunteered at her church and with other community activities and civic organizations as an RSVP volunteer. She had also served as a Venango County 4-H Leader.

Knowing that her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ loved her was her reason for living, as well as her daughter, grandchildren and great granddaughter. She also enjoyed music and her dogs.

Surviving is her daughter, Robin Hook and husband A.J.; her grandchildren: James Cameron and Alicia Steetle and husband Robert; great granddaughter, Milana Steetle; her sister, Marilyn Latshaw and her son Denny Latshaw and wife Jann, and their daughter Shelby.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Durnell and husband Jerry and their sons Jason and Jeff; and her brother-in-law, Richard Latshaw.

Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 PM in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin.

Friends may also call Wednesday 10-11 AM in The Atlantic Avenue United Brethren Church in Franklin. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 AM in the church with Reverend Brad Riddle, lead pastor officiating.

Private interment will follow in Franklin Cemetery.

It is Maxine’s desire, that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be directed to either The Atlantic Avenue United Brethren Church, 160 Atlantic Avenue, Franklin, PA 16323 or to the Christian Charity of your choice.
