Men Involved in Fight at Venango County Jail Waive Hearings

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — Two men facing assault charges following a fight at the Venango County Jail both waived their hearings this week.

Court documents indicate 40-year-old Nathon Lee Turk Sr., of Kennerdell, and 45-year-old Walter Warren Andrews, of Franklin, both waived preliminary hearings on Wednesday, March 6, on the following charges:

– a first-degree felony count of aggravated assault against Turk.

– a third-degree count of simple assault against Andrews.

The charges have been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

Turk remains lodged in the Venango County Jail pending $25,000.00 monetary bail.

Andrews bail was set at $1,500.00 unsecured; however, he remains lodged in the Venango County Jail, serving a sentence of six to twelve months on a misdemeanor drug possession charge.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, on January 27, Officer Brownlee of the Franklin Police Department was dispatched to Venango County Jail for a report of an assault on an inmate.

Upon his arrival at the jail, Officer Brownlee discovered that Walter Andrews had been taken to the hospital for serious injuries. Officer Brownlee then interviewed Nathon Turk Sr. as well as several witnesses.

According to the complaint, Officer Brownlee was informed by a witness that Andrews told Turk to go into the bathroom to fight, and Turk then followed Andrews into the bathroom.

The complaint notes that according to statements, Turk and Andrews mutually agreed that they were going to fight.

The fight resulted in Andrews being thrown to the ground, resulting in serious bodily injury, and Andrews also caused bodily injury to Turk during the fight, according to the complaint.

Based on the investigation, Turk was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 28.

Andrews was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1.
