| June 20, 2012

GavelMERCER COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – According to Sharon police, a 17-year-old Mercer County boy faces animal cruelty charges for shooting a cat with an arrow.

Police say on June 8th, around 1:30 p.m., they were called to the 100 block of Wengler Avenue, Sharon, Pa., to investigate a report of kids chasing animals with arrows.

According to police, they found an orange cat with an arrow in its neck; the 17-year-old boy admitted shooting it.

The arrow entered the cat’s neck and exited near its shoulder; animal control and members of the Mercer County Humane Society responded and took the cat to Hermitage Veterinary Hospital where it had to be put to sleep because its injuries were so extensive.

Sources say the boy said he shot the cat, which belonged to a neighbor, because it kept coming onto his property and eating baby rabbits.

Upon investigation, police filed charges of cruelty to animals and disorderly conduct against the boy in juvenile court.
