Michael John O’Polka, 71, of Franklin died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Hamot UPMC, Erie.

A son of the late John and Georgeann Denea O’Polka, he was born in Anniston, AL on February 11, 1945. He received his B.S. in Accounting from Gannon University and was a licensed C.P.A.

Mike began his career with Root, Spitnas & Smiley in Erie. He partnered with his brother Richard O’Polka, and operated O’Polka & Co. in Franklin for 40 years.

He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of Franklin Elks Lodge #110. He had served on the board of directors of Wanango Country Club. Mike was an avid golfer and enjoyed his cars and tractors. He delighted in giving his grandchildren tractor rides and cheering on the Pittsburgh sports teams.

On August 10, 1968 he married the former Patricia A. Baker, she survives along with 4 children Michael W. O’Polka of Franklin, James A. O’Polka of Monkton, MD, Natalie A. (David) Roe of Fishers, IN and Stephanie L. (Jean Marc) Biewend of Palm Harbor, FL; 8 grandchildren Michael J. O’Polka II, Owen R. O’Polka, Theodor F. Biewend II, Clayton A. Roe, Carter J. O’Polka, Seth P. Biewend, Spencer A. O’Polka and Remi J. Biewend. Also surviving are a sister Dianne Backer of Franklin; 2 brothers Richard P. (Tammy) O’Polka of Franklin and Joseph J. (Bonny) O’Polka of Grove City, several nieces and nephews and his companion Roxie.

Friends will be received in the Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 312 W. Park St. from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church at noon on Wednesday.

Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
