Michael R. (Mike) Hartnett

Michael R. (Mike) Hartnett, 86, passed away on October 2, 2018, at the Jefferson Manor Health Center in Brookville, PA.

Born in Johnstown, PA on October 31, 1931, raised in Indiana, PA, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Mary R. (Ruth) Hartnett.

On September 4, 1954, Mike married the love of his life, D. Joan (Goodlin) Hartnett who survives. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary of which they spent the majority of their married lives in the Brookville, PA area. He was a devout Catholic by faith and served his church as lector, usher, and music leader.

Mike graduated from the Indiana, PA Joint High School in 1949 and served as a veteran of the U.S. Army, in which he was active from 1950 – 1954 with the 3rd Army Signal Corp and was stationed in Germany for two years during the Korean War. He was employed with W.P. Stahlman Coal Company, C & K Coal Company, and Zuck Lime and Fertilizer, from which he retired in 1993. He also held the Secretary Treasurer position for Union Township for twenty-six years.

Mike was a past member of the DuBois Area Jaycees, Corsica Volunteer Fire Department, Strattanville American Legion, Brookville Lions Club, and Clarion Limestone Area High School Adult Boosters Club. He enjoyed sports and spent years coaching Teener League Baseball, umpiring baseball for different youth baseball leagues, announcing football games for the Clarion Limestone Area High School, and was one of the team’s most emphatic fans. He was a respected member of the community and loved by all that knew him.

He is survived by a son; Terry M. (Linda) Hartnett of DuBois, PA; and daughters Valerie J. (Scott) Burkett of Punxsutawney, PA, and Michele M. (Brian) Linden of Brockport, PA; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepmother; Rita Hartnett Starke; a sister Mary Ruth (Thull) Erl; brothers Edward and John, a stepbrother Charles, and a daughter Kimberly Ann.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, October 5, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018, also at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. and officiated by Father William Laska. Interment will take place at the St. Bernard Cemetery in Indiana, PA.

Memorial contributions may be donated in Mike’s name to the Brookville Immaculate Conception Church, Wounded Warriors, Corsica Volunteer Fire Department, or Strattanville American Legion.
