BUTLER CO., Pa. (EYT) — The short life of 4-year-old murder victim Bentley Miller was surrounded by convicted felons.

Bentley died on Tuesday, March 21, after Butler Township Police say he was sexually assaulted by Keith Jordan Lambing at a Super 8 Motel.

The people mainly entrusted with his care each have criminal records, mostly for narcotics violations or related crimes.

According to online court documents, Bentley’s mother, 21-year-old MacKenzie Paige Peters, of Butler, has been charged with two counts of Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, a third-degree felony.

According to a published article in butlereagle.com, Butler Township police arrested Peters on March 30.

Investigators say Peters “failed to seek appropriate medical treatment” for a “severe burn” Bentley suffered to the top of his hand and wrist while in the care her boyfriend, Lambing.

Peter’s previous legal trouble included drug offenses, shoplifting, and driving without a license.

The victim’s father, 24-year-old Tyler Miller, pleaded guilty to drug charges in 2014 and served time for it. He also spent 14 days in jail on a DUI charge in 2015.

For Lambing, his record includes pending charges of burglary and previous cases of fleeing from a police officer, theft, and resisting arrest.

Lambing’s mother, 43-year-old Kristen Herold, of Wexford, was charged with several offenses in relation to Bentley’s case, but it was far from her first brush with the law.

Herold has been convicted of forgery, conspiracy, theft, shoplifting, drug offenses, and driving without a license.

Lambing and Peters were staying at a Super 8 Motel with Bentley and their four-month-old infant. Peters was at work, and Lambing was watching Bentley.

The four-month-old infant is currently in the custody of Butler County Children and Youth Services.
