Comcast customers around the nation began reporting outages shortly after lunchtime on Friday.

Comcast gave a statement to its subsidiary, CNBC around 1:47 p.m. stating they were aware of the problem and were working on it.

Finally, around 2:40 p.m., one of Comcast’s official Twitter accounts, ComcastCares, confirmed that a cut fiber compromised their services in many parts of the country.

The message reads:

One of Comcast’s large backbone network partners had a fiber cut that we believe is also impacting other providers. It is currently affecting our business and residential internet, video and voice customers. We apologize & are working to get services restored as soon as possible
