RENO, Pa. (EYT) — Several Venango County fire companies responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon in Reno at the intersection of Seventh and Chestnut streets.

According to county 911 dispatch, the fire began at about 12:30 p.m.

Firefighters from Reno, Rocky Grove, Oil City, Sandy Creek Volunteer, Cornplanter, and Rouseville, as well as Community Ambulance were dispatched.

According to Oil City Fire Department Captain Dennis Alcorn, the house had extensive fire and smoke damage.

Alcon said an elderly woman was trapped inside the home at the time of the fire, but neighbors used a ladder to get her out of the home.

The woman was taken to an area hospital to be checked out, according to Alcorn.

Alcorn also said multiple dogs and cats were inside the home with some being rescued and some dying in the fire.

Efforts to reach the Reno Volunteer Fire Department were unsuccessful.
