New Franklin Brewery Gets OK from City Council for Liquor License Transfer

| September 12, 2017

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — Trails to Ales Brewery received the blessing of Franklin City Council for a liquor license transfer at Monday night’s council meeting.

Dave Ballard, one of the owners of the business slated to open at 1270 Liberty Street, confirmed the license approval.

“We were confident it would be approved, and we were pleased with the comments we heard supporting it,” Ballard said.

The next step is to submit an application with the state for the license transfer from the Sportsman’s Tavern, which burned down earlier this year.

Ballard said that would be done soon and he also doesn’t anticipate any issues.

Once it opens, which isn’t expected for another nine months or so, the brew house will operate until 9 or 10 p.m. most nights and approximately 8 p.m. on Sundays.

“We will be open Sunday because we want to get the business from the bike trail,” Ballard said. “We may be open later on Friday or Saturday night for an open mic night, something special.”

Ballard said last week that Trails to Ales is first and foremost a craft brewery – not just a restaurant that serves beer.

“There will be a limited menu, but we want to be a brewery. It is not our intention to compete with any of the area restaurants,” Ballard said. “But our menu will set us apart from the other establishments in our immediate area. We will focus on a small plate menu featuring deli sandwiches, locally barbecued meats, and we will produce one-of-a-kind meals.”

The brewery and brew house will occupy two adjacent buildings on Liberty Street.

Ballard said there is plenty of work to be done before any craft beer is made.

“It will also be a few months before we can get in the buildings. They need gutted and completely renovated, so there’s quite a bit to be done.”
