MERCER COUNTY, Pa. – A New Jersey man has been charged with evidence tampering in the fatal Interstate-80 accident that occurred around 3:30 a.m. on April 10, on the eastbound lanes between the Grove City and Barkeyville exits, in Wolf Creek Township, Mercer County.

Officials say 53 year-old Wilfredo Suarez, from Clifton, New Jersey, was towing a trailer with no rear lights and three flat tires, traveling under 35 miles per hour, when he was struck from behind by a minivan driven by 55 year-old Michael Holder, from Lansing, Michigan. Holder was killed in the collision.

Suarez allegedly modified the trailer while police were investigation the accident.

Suarez reportedly did not stop his rig because he was trying to save money on repairs by reaching a garage nearly fifty miles away. Troopers say they were conducting interviews when Suarez replaced his malfunctioning rear lights and tossed the damaged lights over an embankment.

State Police say Suarez is also charged with several other counts including reckless driving, operating unsafe equipment, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
