OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — A proposed new street in the city and what the street would be named was discussed at the Oil City Council meeting on Thursday.

The street is near the new parking lot where the city’s parking garage used to stand. The fact that PennDOT wants to close the bottom of Elk Street near where the old parking garage was located was also mentioned.

The new street would go in near Billy’s Bar and may be named as Clifford Street, which was the name of a road that was there before or could be named something new.

There was some concern from the council about possible truck traffic getting stuck on Elm Street, and there could be a problem turning right at the Eagles off the new street unless parking was eliminated by the Eagles.

Oil City Police Chief Bob Wenner said that Elm Street doesn’t get much truck traffic except for truckers whose GPS get them lost.

It was also discussed that the county currently owns the property where the parking structure was located, but PennDOT would own it now, and the county would lease it.
