| February 25, 2020

OIL CITY, Pa. – The Oil City YMCA Community Youth Volunteer Program is open to youth in the community ages 10 to 18 and has opportunities available for kids to gain valuable work experience while earning “time dollars” that can be redeemed for gift cards and other incentives.

The Community Youth Volunteer Program is open to Venango County youth between the ages of 10 and 18. Participants in the program earn “time dollars” for each hour they volunteer up to 80 hours in a calendar year.

New volunteer opportunities are available each month and include the community food pantry, Humane Society, Salvation Army, Precious Paws, Keystone Smiles,  YMCA, VARHA, Youth For Christ, and local churches.

The “time dollars” are credited to the volunteer’s account at the rate of $4.00 an hour. The value of the hours volunteered can be redeemed for gift cards.  Youth can earn up to $320.00 per year.  “Time dollars” can be redeemed for YMCA memberships, Walmart gift cards, and even local church and school events for youth.

The program is funded through three grants from the United Way, Samuel Justus Charitable Trust, and Keystone Smile’s Youth Philanthropy.

“This is truly a great program that gives local kids work experience and responsibility with a small incentive,” said Katie Roth, Community Youth Volunteer Coordinator.

There are currently 470 volunteers in the program with around 75 new volunteers signing on per year.

“There is always room for more kids in the program,” said Roth.  “There are plenty of opportunities, especially in the summer.”

Youth are encouraged to sign up early before opportunities are offered.  Registration packets for the program can be downloaded HERE.
