59-year-old Man Suffers Major Injuries after Tractor Trailer Accident in Warren County

MEAD TOWNSHIP,Pa. (EYT) — A New York man sustained major injuries after losing control of the Mack Truck he was operating around 7:40 a.m. Monday on Route 59, Mead Township, Warren County.

Warren state based police said Dennis K. Korell, 59, of Binghamton, N.Y., was traveling eastbound on Route 59, hauling a trailer containing asphalt. Korell was traveling in the S-curves of Route 59, when he failed to negotiate a left hand curve and left the roadway for unknown reasons.

After losing control, the truck impacted a rock and a guide rail. Upon impact, the truck continued to travel eastbound, entering a ditch on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway, police said.

According to police, upon entering a ditch, the vehicle became slightly airborne and struck an embankment, causing the cab of the vehicle to overturn onto its driver side. The attached trailer was dragged along the guide rail, causing it to be torn open, spilling the contents of the trailer into the creek and river.

Korell, was pinned inside the cab of the truck, requiring mechanical extraction, police said.

According to police, Korell sustained major injuries as a result of the crash and was airlifted to Hamot Medical Center in Erie. The tractor trailer Korell was operating sustained major damage.

Glade VFD, Clarendon VFD, Warren City VFD, Emercycare, Department of Environmental Protection, PA Fish and Boat Commission, Hazmat, US Forest Services, PennDot and Koebley’s Towing provided assistance on the scene.
