Norma Gail Senott

| November 6, 2019

Senott Obit picNorma Gail Senott, 79, of Cooperstown, passed away in her home surrounded by family late in the evening on Monday, November 4, 2019.

Born just north of Cooperstown on December 9, 1939, she was the youngest daughter of the late George Herbert and Pearl Audrey (Tingley) Cobb. She attended school in Cochranton and Rocky Grove.

Her first marriage to James Doyle of Utica led her across the country as a Navy wife to such places as Groton CT, Pascagoula MS and San Diego CA. It was in Honolulu HI that her son James Jr. and daughter Jaime were born, with her youngest son Jason to arrive later when the family was back in Cooperstown.

On July 23, 1977 she remarried to Joseph Angelo Senott and began a forty-year whirlwind of romance, travel, friendship and family. A highlight still talked about decades later was their trip to Switzerland. She became an avid golfer, and the couple enjoyed many trips across the eastern half of the country on golf vacations with their beloved friends DeWayne & Patty Moore. She also loved to hunt for antiques of all kinds, and with their friends Nick and Nell Kusich they travelled far and wide to sales, auctions and flea markets. She could rarely outbid Nick.

Norma had a keen fashion sense and loved to keep up with the latest styles. She and Joe loved to go on shopping outings, especially if a sale was involved. The sales staff at many major department stores often knew and greeted them by name.

She loved Joe, who preceded her in death on May 26, 2018. She also loved dogs, horses, baking, NASCAR and music. She loved her kids, their kids and their kids. She had an encyclopedic knowledge of local lore and who’s who. She was a great lady.

She is survived by her children, James Doyle Jr. and his wife Judy; Jaime Winger and her partner Henry Rector; and Jason Doyle and his wife Susan; her stepson Joseph Senott and his wife Kelly; her grandchildren Michael, Douglas, Jolene, Jessica, Janson, Ava, Rachael, Alexandra and Julia; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews, including her beloved niece, Kim Andrews, who was a great help and comfort to the family during Norma’s illness.

Also surviving are her sisters, Virginia Johnson and Erma Dickson, and her former husband James Doyle.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Anderson.
