NW Commission, Rep. James, and Area Business Resources Partner for PA COSTARS Training Event

FRANKLIN, Pa. – On May 11, the Northwest Commission Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), in partnership with State Representative R. Lee James will present a free workshop covering aspects of the COSTARS program for Suppliers.

The seminar entitled “How to Become a COSTARS Supplier” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Franklin Industrial and Commercial Development Authority/Emerging Technology Center located at 191 Howard Street, Franklin, Pa.

Additional co-sponsors for this event are the Franklin and Venango Area Chambers of Commerce and the Clarion University Small Business Development Center.

“We are very happy to bring this informative Department of General Services session to Venango County,” said state Rep. Lee James. “Our target audience on May 11 is the business community, since this program helps connect vendors of goods and services with potential consumers. COSTARS is an established program with history of working well across Pennsylvania.”

COSTARS is the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s cooperative purchasing program administered by the Department of General Services (DGS) Bureau of Procurement. The COSTARS program provides registered local public procurement units, state-affiliated entities and qualified suppliers a tool to find and do business with each other through the use of a contract established by DGS.

The May 11th workshop will be presented by staff of the Northwest Commission’s PTAC office. The session will cover various aspect of COSTARS, including general program details, navigating the COSTARS websites, finding contract opportunities, and the steps and requirements to become a supplier under the program.

There are several thousand registered members taking advantage of existing Commonwealth contracts. The goal of the program is to provide a contract with competitive pricing, while providing increased opportunities for suppliers and eligible participants. Some of the current industries COSTARS is soliciting bids from include: janitorial supplies, foods, graphic and printing services, toiletries, pest control services, municipal work vehicles, energy consulting services, and furniture and window treatments, just to name a few.
