OC Man Allegedly Assaults Neighbor Over Noise Complaint

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man is facing charges after he allegedly took exception to a complaint about loud music and assaulted the man making the complaint.

According to a criminal complaint, Oil City Police were dispatched around 9:52 p.m. July 24 for a report of an assault and arrived to find the male victim had severe bruising and swelling on his face and head.

The victim said Thomas Matthew Renwick, 38, of Oil City “beat the **** out of him,” the complaint states.

The victim told police he and Renwick were outside at separate residences, and the neighbors were being loud and playing loud music.

The victim said he asked the neighbors to turn down the music, and after words were exchanged he met Renwick on a nearby street, where Renwick allegedly assaulted him by punching and kicking him in the head and upper body area.

According to online court documents, Renwick faces the following charges at district court 28-03-03:

  • Aggravated assault, first-degree felony
  • Simple assault, second degree misdemeanor
  • Harassment by subjecting another to physical contact, summary
  • Disorderly conduct engaging in fighting, summary

Renwick was arraigned at 12:30 a.m. July 25 before District Judge Michael Snyder and placed in the Venango County Jail on $40,000.00 cash bail, which he posed July 27 through a professional bondsman.

A preliminary hearing has been set for 1:30 p.m. August 12 in Venango County Central Court.
