JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — The Jefferson County Department of Emergency Services has announced a scam that is being perpetuated by a man in a number of states, including Pennsylvania.

The man is accused of scamming businesses in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, and Michigan, claiming to be a representative of a fire prevention and safety inspector for a false company called “Metro Fire Prevention.”

The business does not exist according to law enforcement reports.

The individual informs employees that he is there to inspect fire extinguishers and requests cash payment. He has hit locations in the Pittsburgh area.

If a individual seems suspicious, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately. Also request credentials from service providers to confirm their business or agency affiliation.
