Oil City Council Approves Requests for Summer Events

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — The Oil City Council approved two requests for summer events at Thursday night’s council meeting.

The council approved a request from the Future Leaders and Entrepreneurs Exchange (FLEX), the young professional group of the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce, to plan for the Third Annual Oil Heritage Festival Bike ‘n Brew of Saturday, July 21.

The event will be held in Justus Park and will include outdoor activities from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and a brewfest from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

At the event, the brewfest area will be set up under a large tent with fencing around it, in which only ticketholders 21 and older will be permitted to enter.

The request approved also included access to the park from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the evening of Friday, July 20, for set up.

The council also approved a request from the Grace United Methodist Church, granting the use of the parking lot behind the church building for two public events during the summer.

The church will be holding an Ice Cream Social on June 5, for which they requested closure of the lower part of the parking lot, for set up, at 5:00 p.m. The ice cream social will have free ice cream and toppings, as well as music.

The second event is a Children’s Carnival to be held on August 14. The church requested closure of the lower part of the parking lot at 5:00 p.m. for set up. The Children’s carnival will include games and refreshments appropriate for children in elementary school and younger, and for their parents.

Both events plan to run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and both are free and open to the public.

OTHER BUSINESS

In other business the council:

  • Approved a Right of Way Agreement with Oil City Automotive Center, Inc. which grants the City of Oil City a non-exclusive right of way and easement for the laying of a water pipeline.
  • City Manager Mark Schroyer recognized two donations toward the playground project: Friedhaber’s Appliance donated $100.00 and State Senator Scott Hutchinson and his wife donated $250.00.
  • Heard a presentation of 2017 Preliminary Audit by Mark Turnley CPAs.
