OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — At Oil City Council’s meeting on Thursday night, there was a short discussion about renting out Justus Park for events.

City Manager Mark Schroyer said the city has been getting inquiries from people wanting to know if they could rent the park for events, such as weddings.

Michelle Hoovler, the financial officer for the city, said currently the city rents space at Hasson Park with pavilion rentals ranging from $50.00 to $200.00 depending on the pavilion.

Council member Dale Massie wanted to know if there was anything in the agreement between the Justus Trust and the city that would prevent the city from renting the park, and Jena Knight, the Executive Secretary for the City, said she knows that everything the Justus Trust was about was providing for children.

Schroyer said it was potentially a possibility that the city could rent out the bandshell for weddings and other events, but the rest of the park would need to stay open, and he also commented that people can use the park currently for events like weddings but can’t be assured that it would be available.

The council wanted to look further into the issue as to whether they could even rent out the park before coming to any decision.
