OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Oil City Council approved two civic-minded programs at Thursday’s council meeting.

Main Street Manager Kathy Bailey has a plan to offer extended hours for the public in its Farmer’s Market program with two “MarketFest” events. To do it will require closing the southbound lanes of Central Avenue from Front to First Streets at 3 p.m., Thursday, June 22, and Thursday, Sept. 7.

The two dates for “MarketFest” will be open from 4-6 p.m. each evening and will feature more vendors and live music.

“A tent will be set up for the musicians near the island by the Oil City Library, and we will run electric to the exterior outlet,” Bailey said.

The Farmer’s Market opened June 1 and Bailey said there are currently five vendors, but she expects more as the season progresses. There were 11 in 2016.

The market is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Thursday on Central Avenue. Vendors set up near the library and Christ Episcopal Church.

“We appreciate the support we get from the City’s Public Works Department in placing the banners,” Bailey said.

YOUTH, FAITH-BASED PROGRAM COMING TO LAND OF LAUGHTER PLAYGROUND

Also, council approved a request from Major Faith Miller of the Salvation Army to use the Land of Laughter playground on Harriott Avenue for a youth, faith-based program.

It will be held from 3-5 p.m. each Thursday beginning June 29 and ending Aug. 3.

There will be crafts, games and fun activities for kids in the community, as well as dinner for youths up to 18-years old.
