Oil City Girls’ Basketball Wins Region 2 Title

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – For the first time since 2002, Oil City High School will need to add another year to the Girls’ Basketball League Championship banner that hangs in the gym.

The Oilers claimed their first District 10 Region 2 crown with a 53-25 win over Sharon to earn the 12th League championship in program history and the first since 2002.

Oil City Region 2 Champs 1Abby Yeager scored a game-high 18 points, including eight during a 21-point second quarter that allowed Oil City to take a 32-13 lead into halftime.

Grace King and Tessa Stack both added nine points for first-year head coach Marie Plumer’s squad with Allison Stanley chipping in seven points.

Ayanna Harrison paced Sharon with nine points with Mariana Harris adding eight.

Oil City is now 15-6 overall and 12-2 in Region 2 play on the year. The Oilers close out the regular season Thursday when they travel to Conneaut (Pa.).

Other league crowns for Oil City came in 1972, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1994, 1996, 1997 and 2002.

LAKEVIEW 51, FRANKLIN 40

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Behind 20 points from Jensen Troy visiting Lakeview knocked off Franklin, 51-40.

Karlie Hoffman paced the Knights with 13 points.

KEYSTONE 40, FOREST AREA 21

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Taylor Geer and Kaci Weaver combined for 28 points to help Keystone to a 40-21 win over Forest Area at East Forest.

Geer led the Lady Panthers with 17 points with Weaver chipping in 11.

Bianca Hetrick had seven points and nine rebounds to pace the Lady Fires.
