Oil City Grapplers Set to Head to Erie for Districts

ERIE, Pa. (EYT) — District 10 has released the brackets for this weekend’s Class AAA Wrestling Tournament at Erie McDowell.

Teams competing include Oil City, Cathedral Prep, East, Central, General McLane, McDowell, Meadville, Strong Vincent, and Warren.

Wrestling, on three mats, begins Friday at 5:15 p.m. with the quarterfinals.

Saturday, the semifinals start at 9:00 a.m.

The place matches for third and fourth begin at 2:30 p.m. The Parade of Champions is at 4:30 with the finals to follow.

The top four place winners advance to regionals.

The Oilers, coached by Kevin Ochalek, will send nine wrestlers to Erie as they chase district titles and berths in the Northwest Regional Tournament March 3-4 in Altoona.

Beginning at 106 pounds, OC freshman Carter Stanley (15-3) opens with McDowell’s Matt Munsch (6-11).

At 120, sophomore Mike Helpling (4-5) opens with Central’s Ahmed Al Luhabi. The winner gets Warren’s Jacob Frankhouser.

At 126, sophomore Mitchell Rossey (11-6) has a bye into the semifinals where he will face the winner of the match between McDowell’s Jeff Boyd or Warren’s John Frankhouser.

At 132, sophomore Nick Clark (12-10) battles Warren’s Alex Weston. The winner will face McDowell’s Leno Ciotti.

At 138, sophomore Duane Clark (6-15) battles Warren senior Jacob Engstrom in the quarters.

At 145, senior Nick Dobson (9-9) battles Meadville’s Nick Rinella.

At 152, sophomore Ethan Deloe (7-15) opens with Warren senior Blake Ristau.

At 160, sophomore Colton Sutley (3-10) starts with Central’s Jacob Blyant (1-14). A win for Sutley sets up a semifinal match against Cathedral Prep’s Dazjon Casto.

At 170, sophomore Kaden Geib (2-12) tackles McDowell senior Ilyaz Veysalov (24-7).
