Oil City Looks to Stay Unbeaten; Franklin Looks to Rebound Friday Night

| September 7, 2018

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – Coming off an emphatic 73-7 trouncing of rival Franklin last week, Oil City looks to stay unbeaten when it hosts 1-1 Girard at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Oilers (2-0) love to run the ball and love to run it behind Christian Cole.

The senior has rushed for 592 yards on 56 carries with 10 touchdowns through two weeks and is coming off a 328-yard, five-touchdown performance against Franklin.

Noah Petro also adds 171 yards on the ground with quarterback Holden Stahl chipping in 131 yards rushing and a touchdown and 51 yards passing on just six attempts, three completions.

Girard got by Cambridge Springs, 10-6, in its opener two weeks ago before falling to Fairview, 28-6, last week.

Corey Russell leads the Yellow Jackets with 103 yards rushing with Cam Feather scoring two rushing touchdowns while carrying the ball 18 times for 47 yards. Feather is also 6 of 13 passing for 53 yards.

FRANKLIN LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK VS. SLIPPERY ROCK

After the 73-7 thrashing last week, Franklin hopes to bounce back and get back into the win column when it hosts Slippery Rock in its home opener at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Knights (1-1) have gotten one strong game and one okay game from junior quarter Ian Haynes.

Haynes threw for 266 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-21 Week Zero win over North East but tossed for just 128 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the loss to Oil City.

On the year, Haynes is 23 of 45 passing for 394 yards, five touchdowns and an interception.

Eli Stewart is Haynes’ top target catching six balls for 148 yards and two touchdowns with most of that (4 catches, 131 yards, 2 TDs) coming in the North East game.

Slippery Rock is off to a 2-0 start with a 27-14 win over General McLane in Week Zero and a 24-6 victory over Reynolds last week.

The Rockets haven’t really moved the ball a ton averaging 269 yards of offense through two weeks with 217 coming on the ground.

Quarterback Vito Pilosi has thrown for 104 yards and rushed for 145 and two touchdowns while Kaleb Kamerer has a team-best 181 yards rushing and two scores while catching four passes for 37 yards.
