Oil City Main Street to Hold 5k Run/Walk

OIL CITY, Pa. – The Oil City Main Street Program will be holding a 5K Run/Walk this Saturday, December 1st in conjunction with Oil City’s 12th Annual Christmas Past event. The “Jingle Bell Run” will start at 9:00 am at the Samuel Justus Recreational Trail.

Cost is $15.00 preregistered (deadline is Thursday, November 29), or $18.00 the day of the event; proceeds benefit the downtown revitalization efforts of the Oil City Main Street Program. Race day registration is 7:30 am – 8:45 am at the Penelec Garage on West First Street. Registration forms are available at the Main Street Office (Oil Region Alliance, 217 Elm Street), the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce, Oil City YMCA, Oil City YWCA and on the Oil City Main Street Program’s Facebook page.

“We are excited to hold this 5K race as part of the festivities during the Christmas Past weekend,” stated Kathy Bailey, Main Street Manager. We invite all area runners and walkers to join us for a brisk way to start the morning, and encourage everyone to come to downtown Oil City for a weekend of family fun, food, Santa, and much more.”

The weekend’s schedule begins on Thursday at 7 pm, with a concert by pianist Jeff Painter at Oil City High School. Friday activities will begin at 5 pm in Central Avenue Plaza and will include a Chili Cook-off by Oil City Rotary, horse & carriage rides, Santa & children’s activities, and more.

Various events will be held throughout the day on Saturday on both North and South sides of downtown, and a 7 pm concert by Venango Chorus at Good Hope Lutheran Church will wrap up the weekend’s events.
