Oil City Man Accused of Burglary Sentenced to One-Year Probation; Several Charges Withdrawn

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – An Oil City man who was accused of burglary was sentenced to probation on Wednesday.

According to court documents, on Wednesday, May 23, 28-year-old William Michael Kennedy, of Oil City, pleaded guilty in Venango County District Court to one third-degree misdemeanor charge of Theft by Unlawful Taking-Movable Property

The following charges were withdrawn:

– Burglary – Overnight Accommodations; Person Present, Bodily Injury Crime, Felony 1
– Intimidate Witness/Victim – Refrain From Report, Felony 3
– Criminal Trespass-Enter Structure, Felony 3
– Disorderly Conduct Hazardous/Physical Offense, Misdemeanor 3
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

Court documents state that Kennedy was sentenced to 12-months state supervision beginning on May 23, 2018, concurrent with any probation case/parole case.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, while conducting an investigation about drug paraphernalia, a witness had text messages from William Kennedy stating that he needed his “bowl” back.

Oil City Police Patrolman Byham made contact with Kennedy and asked him to come to the station for a talk.

After speaking with Kennedy, Patrolman Byham was contacted by a known victim concerning Kennedy entering her house on Wilson Avenue shortly after midnight on May 12, opened her door, walked to her bedroom while she, her mother, and her children were sleeping, and began yelling at her.

The victim said that as he was leaving the house, he noticed she had $2.00 laying on the kitchen table and took it.

While conducting a search incident to arrest, Patrolman Byham found two $1.00 bills in Kennedy’s front pants pocket.
