CORNPLANTER TWP., Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man is awaiting a preliminary hearing on charges related to an alleged aggravated assault in Cornplanter Township, Venango County.

Franklin-based State Police filed the following charges against 49-year-old Shawn Eugene Orner on October 27 at Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office:

  • Aggravated Assault, Felony 1
  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
  • Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

The charges stem from an incident that is alleged to have occurred at a College Drive residence on October 26 around 3:15 p.m.

According to a criminal complaint filed at Judge Fish’s office, Tpr. Schmader interviewed the victim at UPMC Northwest later that day.

The victim told Tpr. Schmader that Shawn Orner pushed her against a wall causing her to hit her head. He then allegedly pulled the victim’s hair and choked her, the complaint said.

Police observed red marks on one of the victim’s arms and her neck.

“The victim stated that she was frightened for her safety and frightened by men in general after this incident,” said Tpr. Schmader in the criminal complaint.

Tpr. Schmader then spoke with a witness who stated that Orner pushed the victim against the wall causing a picture to fall and hit the victim’s head. The witness said Orner then choked the victim, according to the criminal complaint.

Orner was arraigned on October 26 at 9:15 p.m. at Judge Fish’s office.

He is free on $5,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is slated for November 1 at 8:30 a.m. with Judge Fish presiding.
