Oil City Man Accused of Picking Up 6-Year-Old by Neck During Domestic Dispute Waives Hearing

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Charges against an Oil City man for allegedly picking up his six-year-old son by the neck during a domestic dispute were waived for court.

According to court documents, on Wednesday, April 18, the following criminal charges against 30-year-old Shawn Ray McDonald, of Oil City, were transferred to Venango County Court of Common Pleas:

– Strangulation – Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Felony 2
– Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

He remains lodged in the Venango County Jail on $35,000.00 cash bail.

Case details:

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:56 p.m. on Monday, April 2, the Oil City Police Department received a call from a known female who reported an incident. She stated that she and her husband, Shawn McDonald, were arguing. After she made a comment about him always being angry, he said she “hadn’t seen nothing yet.” Then, he picked up their six-year-old son by his neck.

She said that her son’s feet were about six inches off the ground, and McDonald held him in the air for five to ten seconds. This was also witnessed by other children in the house located on Graff Street in Oil City, the complaint states.

McDonald was arraigned at 6:55 p.m. on Monday, April 2, in Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey’s office.
