Oil City Man Accused of Punching 13-Year-Old Boy

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old boy on Monday evening.

According to court documents, the Oil City Police Department filed charges against 18-year-old Darrell Banks, of Oil City.

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:35 p.m. on January 29, Officers Webster and Hargenrader were dispatched to a residence on the 300 block of Plummer Street for a report of a 13-year-old juvenile male who had been assaulted.

Upon arrival, contact was made with Darrell Banks. Banks stated that he and the juvenile were having a verbal argument when he punched the juvenile in the face.

When police questioned the juvenile, he also stated that he and Banks were verbally arguing when Banks struck him on the left side of his face, twice, with a closed fist.

Banks was arraigned at the office of District Judge Andrew F. Fish at 11:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, on the following charges:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Originally, Banks was free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail; however, his bail was changed on January 30 to $40,000.00 monetary as he violated the “no contact condition.” He is currently lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 2 at 1:30 p.m. with Judge Fish presiding.
