Oil City Man Accused of Striking Victim with Closed Fist During Domestic Dispute

HandcuffsOIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – An Oil City man is facing assault and other charges following a domestic incident that occurred on Friday morning on Pearl Avenue in Oil City, Venango County.

According to court documents, the Oil City Police Department filed the following criminal charges against 29-year-old Joshua Godfrey, of Oil City:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 3

According to a criminal complaint, sometime between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Friday, May 25, Joshua W. Godfrey entered a residence on Pearl Avenue. Once inside, Godfrey pushed past the female victim on a stairway and continued into the second-floor apartment in an effort to retrieve personal property.

The complaint states that Godfrey and the victim became involved in a verbal altercation with the victim repeatedly demanding that Godfrey leave the apartment. The incident culminated with Godfrey allegedly pushing the victim down into a chair in the kitchen and then striking her with a closed fist. The victim again demanded that Godfrey leave, and he refused.

According to the complaint, the victim told Godfrey that she was going to call the police for help. Godfrey allegedly took the Smartphone to prevent her from making the call and fled the residence with it.

Charges were filed on May 25 in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office.

Godfrey is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
