Oil City Man Accused of Threatening to Kill Woman Faces Hearing

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man accused of threatening to kill a woman is scheduled to appear in court next week.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 25-year-old Tyler Michael O’Laughlin, of Oil City.

According to a criminal complaint, on Saturday, May 18, officers of the Oil City Police Department were dispatched to a residence on East Bissell Avenue for a report of a male intruder who was allegedly being “physical” with a female victim.

Upon their arrival at the residence, the officers were directed to another residence on East Bissell Avenue where the male intruder had allegedly fled prior to their arrival. The complaint notes the male was identified as Tyler O’Laughlin, who was known to the officers from prior law enforcement related matters.

After O’Laughlin was detained, he told police that he was invited inside the residence by the female victim.

Sr. Ptlm. Ruditis then traveled back to the residence to make contact with the victim.

According to the complaint, the victim reported that O’Laughlin entered her residence without permission and stayed after being told to leave multiple times. The victim further stated O’Laughlin placed his hands on her and threatened to “kill” her. He also allegedly threatened her with additional physical violence, according to the complaint.

The victim traveled to the Oil City Police Department where she provided a statement regarding the incident.

Sr. Ptlm. Ruditis also conducted an interview with the individual who reported the incident. The individual stated she was on the phone with the victim at the time of the incident and heard O’Laughlin threaten the victim with physical harm.

Based on the investigation, O’Laughlin was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 9:10 p.m., on Saturday, May 18, on the following charges:

– Terroristic Threats With Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Defiant Trespass Actual Communication, Misdemeanor 3
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Unable to post $10,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Jail. He was released on Monday, May 20, on a surety posted by a professional bondsman.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, with Judge Kirtland presiding.
