OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man has been charged after police say he left his daughter alone after she overdosed on prescription medicine.

Oil City Police filed charges of endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment against Dana Sunderlin, 36, on Tuesday in District Judge Matthew Kirtland’s office.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Oil City Police Lt. Love, he and Chief Bob Wenner responded to 411 West Fourth Street on March 27 for a reported overdose and found a known, juvenile female laying on the couch.

The complaint states that the girl was showing signs of an overdose and responded to a dose of NARCAN by police and Community Service ambulance paramedics.

When the girl woke up, she told police that she took medications from her mother’s bedroom. The girl was taken to UPMC Northwest and later flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to the complaint.

Police then discovered a note from Sunderlin that he “took the victim’s phone and she was supposed to call him if she was still alive,” the complaint continues.

Sunderlin had parental rights to the victim, but police say he failed to provide proper medical care.

Sunderlin was arraigned on Wednesday.

He is currently lodged in the Venango County Jail on $50,000.00 bail.

His preliminary hearing is set for April 12.
