Oil City Man Charged After Fleeing from Sugarcreek Borough Crash

RENO, Pa. (EYT) — Sugarcreek Borough Police were dispatched to an accident that occurred around 9:50 a.m. on January 21, on Allegheny Boulevard, in Sugarcreek Borough, Venango County

Police say upon arrival they located a 2005 4-door Pontiac with moderate damage and airbag deployed at the end of the divided section of Allegheny Boulevard in Reno.

The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene, according to police.

Police determined the vehicle was traveling south through the divided section and impacted the center concrete barrier and the driver fled the scene.

The vehicle crossed both southbound lanes then left the roadway and hit some brush, then re-entered the roadway and again left the southbound edge of the pavement, travelling 480 feet after initial impact with the barrier, before coming to rest, police say.

Investigation showed the vehicle’s operator to be Thomas Eugene Martin, 34 of Oil City, according to police.

Officers located Martin at his place of employment several hours later and was arrested on non-related bench warrants.

Martin faces the following charges:

  • Accidents Involving Damage to Unattended Vehicle or Property
  • Driving Vehicle at Safe Speed
  • Driving While Operating Privilege is Suspended
  • Driving Unregistered Vehicle and Required Financial Responsibility (No Insurance)
