Oil City Man Injured in Rollover Crash on Route 227

police-newCORNPLANTER TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Franklin-based State Police say a rollover crash occurred Friday night on Rouseville Road, at its intersection with Old Warren Pike, in Cornplanter Township, Venango County.

According to police, this crash occurred around 6:02 p.m. as a 2011 Ford Focus driven by 22-year-old Tyler J. Smathers, of Oil City, was traveling north on Route 227, near the intersection of Old Warren Pike.

As Smathers was approaching a slow-moving vehicle, he proceeded to pass it. As he approached the intersection at approximately 60 mph, he lost control of his car and struck a guide rail. The car then went airborne approximately 40 feet before coming to a final rest on the driver’s side in an apple orchard, according to police.

Community Ambulance Service transported Smathers to UPMC Northwest for suspected minor injuries.

He was not using a seat belt.

Community Ambulance, Cornplanter Ambulance, Cornplanter Volunteer Fire Department, and Venango Towing assisted at the scene.
