Oil City Man Injured in Route 428 Crash; Vehicle Shears Utility Pole

OAKLAND TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Police say a vehicle struck a utility pole and sheared it off on Sunday evening, leading to a brief road closure on State Route 428.

According to Franklin-based State Police, around 7:06 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, a one-vehicle crash occurred on Route 428, just south of Halyday Run Road, in Oakland Township, Venango County.

Police say 35-year-old Robert J. Matlock, of Oil City, was operating a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado on State Route 428 when his vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a utility pole, shearing it in half.

He suffered suspected minor injuries and was treated by Reno Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance.

Matlock was using a seat belt.

Both lanes of State Route 428 were closed for approximately 45 minutes following the crash.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Venango Towing.

Matlock was cited for a speed violation.

Oakland Volunteer Fire Company and Community Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
