OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — According to court records, the Oil City man who was convicted of torturing a cat in April of 2012 can avoid going to jail by paying restitution and completing community service.

Records indicate on March 8, 61 year-old David J. Krawiec, of Oil City, was sentenced to four to twenty-four months in jail.

This sentence was suspended, though, as long as Krawiec completes 360 hours of community service and pays $8,883.07 in restitution to Happy Trails Animal Health Shelter located at 4871 on State Route 322 in Franklin, the clinic that nursed Sunny back to health.

According to the shelter, Sunny will permanently live with multiple BB pellets in and around his face.

Krawiec will also serve two years probation.

His case will be reviewed in 6 months to see if a substantial amount of the restitution has been paid and if the community service hours are being done.

Krawiec allegedly trapped Sunny in a raccoon trap and was in the process of drowning it in a garbage can filled with water.

According to police, a neighbor foiled Krawiec’s plans and interfered after hearing the cat crying and called Oil City Police.
