FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman during a domestic incident will be sentenced on December 5.

According to court documents, on October 26, 36-year-old Shaun L. Kase, of Oil City, pleaded guilty to one count of simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor.

His sentencing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, with Judge Robert L. Boyer presiding.

As a result of the plea agreement, the following charges were dismissed:

– Strangulation — Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Felony 2
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

According to a criminal complaint filed by Oil City Police Lt. Love, on September 8, officers responded to 52 Wyllis Street for a report of a verbal domestic incident, and then they received word from Venango County 911 that the victim had been strangled during the altercation.

When police arrived, Lt. Love spoke with the victim, who was sitting in her car. She said she was at the residence to retrieve belongings from Kase, the complaint states.

According to the complaint, the victim said that she was on the porch with Kase when he grabbed her by the neck and began strangling her. She got away from him and fled to her car, the complaint indicates.

Kase followed her to the car, reached in the window and allegedly grabbed her left ear. She then began to scream, and Kase allegedly covered her mouth with his other hand, the complaint continues.

Red marks and scratches were seen on the victim’s neck and chest, according to the complaint.

In a separate case, Kase was charged in a July 21 domestic incident with strangulation, simple assault, and harassment; however, on July 26, the strangulation and assault charges were dismissed.

The summary harassment charge was transferred to a non-traffic court status, and on August 10, he pleaded guilty to the harassment charge. He was ordered to pay a fine and court costs.
