PRESIDENT TWP., Pa. (EYT) – An Oil City man has waived his preliminary hearing on alleged assault charges stemming from an incident that occurred earlier this month in President Township, Venango County.

According to court documents, the following charges against 65-year-old Bruce William Mattozzi, of Oil City, have been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Mattozzi is free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

The case is currently working its way through the court system.

Case details:

According to a criminal complaint, around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, Trooper Bingman, of Franklin-based State Police, was dispatched to a residence on McPherson Road to speak with a known female victim.

Trooper Bingman spoke to the victim in the garage at the McPherson Road location. She told Trooper Bingman that Bruce Mattozzi left the house around noon and returned around 10:00 p.m. and was drunk. She said he was upset with her because she did not have the fireplace lit when he got home. She stated that she didn’t light the fireplace because she had been at the hospital. Then, Mattozzi called her a stupid (expletive) and grabbed her by the hair and spun her down to the ground. She landed on her right shoulder. She said Mattozzi told her that he filed for divorce, and it would not cost him anything if the divorce was uncontested, the complaint states.

Trooper Bingman then proceeded to the residence to speak with Mattozzi. Mattozzi was in the bedroom at the foot of the bed on his knees on the floor with both of his arms extended into the air. Mattozzi said he was “ready to go” with them. Trooper Bingman initiated conversation with Mattozzi, and Mattozi told him he came home and got into an argument with the victim. Mattozi said the victim hit him, and then he told her to “get the (expletive) away” and pushed her. He said all he wanted was a divorce and he knows “when the police get involved, the man has to leave the house,” so he was ready to go, according to the complaint.

Mattozzi was arraigned at 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office.
