OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City man waived his preliminary hearing on charges stemming from an incident where police found him in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

According to court documents, the following charges against 30-year-old Dustin Keith Cox, of Oil City, were waived for court on Wednesday, August 1:

• Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
• Possession of Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor (two counts)
• Deliver/Intent to Deliver Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
• Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor (two counts)

Charges have been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

Cox remains lodged in the Venango County Jail.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 11:55 a.m. on Monday, July 16, Chief Robert Wenner, of the Oil City Police Department, traveled to a room at the Days Inn on Elm Street in Oil City.

The complaint states that through information from a known source, as well as verification from the staff at the location, Chief Wenner learned that Dustin Cox was residing in or occupying the room in question. The complaint notes that Cox was known to Chief Wenner from prior law enforcement related matters and was also known to have outstanding warrants for his arrest.

After making contact with Cox at the location, Chief Wenner and other officers took him into custody based on the outstanding warrants.

According to the complaint, while in the room, the officers observed a set of digital scales with residue in plain view on a dresser. Cox also directed the officers to a black paintball gun located under the pillows of the bed.

While retrieving the paintball gun, Patrolman Ruditis noticed a clear plastic container on the nightstand next to the bed and pointed it out to Chief Wenner. Chief Wenner and Patrolman Ruditis both noted that multiple small zip lock style baggies were visible within the plastic container.

The plastic container was seized along with the digital scales. Inside the plastic container, the officers found 9.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine along with many more empty plastic baggies, according to the complaint.

Two cellular phones were also located, as well as two black bags Cox identified as belonging to him. The black bags contained multiple knives as well as additional baggies, the complaint states.
